With the increase in infections, it has become essential to detect Covid-19 in time, which is why a quick and cheap test has been developed.
Researchers at the University of Washington developed a new fast and cheap test for detect covid-19 without having to resort to a PCR.
With the increase of coronavirus infections it has become indispensable to detect the virus in a timely manner to prevent the virus from spreading.
However one of the problems is that the tests take time to show the results, to help this situation a quick and cheap test known as Harmony Covid-19.
It is a test that combines the speed of the antigen tests over-the-counter with the precision of PCR tests. In this way people can easily detect if they are infected.
How does it work?
Its creators pointed out that the harmony covid-19 test detects the genetic material of the SARS-CoV-2 virus just like PCR tests.
But the difference is that this test can deliver the result in less than 20 minutes and with a precision similar to that of traditional tests.
“We have designed the test to be low cost and simple enough that it can be used anywhere,” explains Barry Lutz, a professor of bioengineering at the University of Washington.
Its developers hope that its low cost will help it get to market faster so that people can have access to high-performance tests, but without spending as much.
“We hope that low cost will make high-throughput testing more accessible locally and around the world”
The harmony covid-19 test you need a smartphone that will be in charge of managing the detector and reading the results. This device can manage up to four samples at the same time and fits in the glove compartment of a vehicle.
“Preliminary results show that the Harmony kit is 97 percent accurate on nasal swabs and detects three different regions of the virus genome.”
