The release of the new version of Linux distribution “Nitrux 1.3.7” which is built on the basis of Ubuntu packages, KDE technologies, the OpenRC startup system and in addition to the distribution developing its own NX desktop, which is a complement to the user’s KDE Plasma environment.
NX Desktop offers a different style, own implementation of the systray, notification center and various plasmoids, such as a network configurator and a multimedia applet for volume control and multimedia content playback control.
Of the applications developed by the project, also se distinguishes an interface to configure the NX Firewall, which allows you to control network access at the level of individual applications. Basic applications include Index file manager (you can also use Dolphin), Kate text editor, Ark filing cabinet, Konsole terminal emulator, Chromium browser, VVave music player, VLC video player, suite LibreOffice office automation and Pix image viewer.
The AppImages standalone package system and its own NX Software Center are being promoted to install additional applications.
Main new features of Nitrux 1.3.7
This new version of the distribution arrives with the new versions of the different packages thatthat make up the system and among the Most prominent are the Linux kernel 5.10.10 LTS and 5.9.16, while the desktop components have been updated to KDE Plasma 5.20.5, KDE Frameworks 5.78.0 and KDE Applications 20.12.1.
Regarding the novelties that stand out in Nitrux 1.3.7, we can find that by default the new Ditto app menu is enabled, which replaces the old NX Simple menu. Ditto does not support dividing apps into sections, all apps are shuffled and displayed in one list.
By default, Ditto displays icons for all available applications, but through settings, you can revert to the old NX Simple menu behavior, which was showing frequently used apps by default. In the settings, you can also change the output format, the menu location and the size of the icon area.
Also by default, there are two new Latte Dock layouts, nx-top-panel-2 and nx-bottom-panel-2 (differing in top or bottom panel placement), which use a new window button menu and applet.
Layouts allow you to increase the efficiency of using desktop space by opening windows in full screen, using the global menu, and moving to the window control button panel area.
And as for the error correction, the following is mentioned in the announcement:
- KCM locale does not display languages other than American English
- Time is not automatically adjusted when selecting a time zone in System Settings
- No users are displayed and new users cannot be added using the User KCM in System Settings
- Qps was removed (due to dependencies) and added Ksysguard.
- New version of sudo (1.9.5p2) that includes the patch for a newly found vulnerability in the program (CVE-2021-3156).
