LOS ANGELES – The FBI is investigating what a commercial airline pilot said could have been a person in the air with a jetpack, high in the busy skies near Los Angeles International Airport.
The Los Angeles Times reported that the pilot of the Boeing 747 radioed to report “a possible jet man in sight” around 6:12 pm Wednesday, according to a recording from the LiveATC website.
The pilot spotted an object that could have resembled a jetpack 15 miles east of LAX at 5,000 feet, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration told the newspaper. “As a precaution, air traffic controllers alerted other pilots in the vicinity.”
“Be careful, the jetpack guy is back,” said an air traffic alert.
“Did you see a UFO?” an air traffic controller asked a pilot.
“We were looking but we didn’t see Iron Man,” replied the pilot.
The FBI is working with the FAA to investigate the report, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller told the Times in an email. The agency has already examined three other possible thrusters in the skies over Los Angeles and “has not been able to validate any of the reports,” it said.
