Why did they remove important characters from the final version of Spider-Man: No Way Home?
During an exclusive chat with TheWrap, the scriptwriters Chris Mckenna Y Erik Sommers were asked about the great Marvel characters that they considered including in the film but, in the end, were discarded. Such a decision was motivated because they did not want to complicate the story and above all because they wanted to give the main characters more screen time.
“I don’t know if we’re allowed to say, honestly, but there were great characters. But almost too big, because it always became a balancing act of how we tell not only a story with all these amazing villains that we know we want to bring to this movie, the classics, but also how do we keep this a Tom Holland/Peter Parker story. so that it is not completely overshadowed”, they commented.
The writers did not reveal the exact names of any major Marvel characters they wanted to appear. However, in the same talk they confessed that among all the ideas they proposed to put together the script was to include Kraven the Hunter. But yes, they were very emphatic in admitting that Spider-Man: No Way Home it needed to be a personal story for the main character: Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
“Because, at the end of the day, it’s not going to be a great Spider-Man movie if you’re not telling an emotional Peter Parker story.”McKenna said. “We had such a wealth… this great idea with these great actors, but we also wanted to tell a story that felt like a personal story of our main character.”.
